Le nom est surtout porté dans la Dordogne, mais on le rencontre aussi dans les Pyrénées-Atlantiques, dont il paraît originaire. Dans ce cas il correspond au nom basque Paratxu, de sens incertain pour moi mais qui pourrait correspondre au mot "palatxu" (ou "palaxu"), désignant une haie vive, une palissade. Variantes : Parachout, Parachoux, Parachu.
